Georgia Tech is made up of six
Colleges offering more than thirty undergraduate majors.
The colleges include Architecture, Computing, Management,
Engineering, Sciences and the Ivan Allen College of Liberal
Arts.. Students may enroll at Georgia Tech with a major in
mind or enter undecided. Georgia Tech has enough variety to
suit most interests for those who do change their majors.

Class Format
Georgia Tech’s undergraduate student/faculty ratio
is 14 to 1, however the college class format if often quite
different, In college students will typically go to lecture
3 hrs/week for 15 weeks, which is much less contact time with
the main instructor. Many first year classes have a recitation
component, which provides time outside of lecture to work
on homework or detailed calculations. Recitations are often
by taught by teaching assistants. For classes with a laboratory
component are often taught by teaching assistants as well.
Tech faculty enjoy teaching and have a lot to teach students
at Georgia Tech. The faculty use of educational technologies
to enhance the undergraduates’ learning experience.
All teaching staff use a wide variety of Web-based instructional
technology , communication software, and course management
software.

What does a University Professor
do?
At a research university such as Georgia Tech, faculty are
expected to be active researchers as well as teachers. Students
benefit from faculty involvement in innovative research because
that involvement enhances the classroom experience. All faculty
members at Georgia Tech are actively engaged in research when
they are not in the classroom. They are very busy creating
new knowledge and invite undergraduates to share in the excitement
of world of research. Many faculty devote time outside the
classroom serving on committees whose work benefits undergraduates
as well.
